Housing Choice Voucher Homeownership Program The San Diego Housing Commission is offering a new program to help those who are currently receiving rental assistance to realize the dream of homeownership. The Housing Choice Voucher Homeownership Program, or “Home of Your Own” program allows Housing Choice Voucher Rental Assistance Program participants to apply their housing assistance payments toward a mortgage loan. Typical qualifying families are eligible to mortgage payment assistance for up to 15 years. However, qualifying elderly and disabled families may receive assistance as long as they remain eligible. All participants will be subject to annual recertification, which includes verification of income and other eligibility factors, similar to the rental assistance program. Please click here for a self-guided series of questions to determine whether you meet the minimum eligibility requirements. Please note that the minimum income requirement is $35,000 per year for families who are neither elderly nor disabled, $30,000 per year for Family Self-sufficiency/ASPIRE families or recent graduates and $25,000 for elderly and/or disabled families. If the website questionnaire indicates you are eligible, you’ll be able to download an application and supporting documents. The application form must be filled out completely and submitted to the Housing Choice Voucher Home Ownership Assistant. The Homeownership Assistant will contact you via mail after your application has been reviewed. Incomplete application packages will not be accepted. Applications for families who do not meet all minimum requirements will be denied.
